Case 1

Case 1

Troubleshooting on a Obstructer engine Marelli 736KW/1100 RPM.

Esbjerg Elektroservice Aps. was requisitioned by one of our collaborators to an accident on a obstructer system onboard a supply ship.

The problem was that the rotor have had contact with the stator, thereby increasing the power output.

There were multiple service companies involved in this case because the problem could also come from the transmission or in the foundation itself.

Esbjerg Elektroservice Aps. located the problem.

The motor was mounted vertical and the welding of the ball bearing shield of the engine on the D-side was cracked. The ball bearing had slipped out of the center and couldn't control the rotor under load.

Both engines was taken out of the ship. One of them was too damaged to be repaired.

The other one was repaired at Esbjerg Elektroservice Aps.

The ball bearing shield was welded open again, inspected and approved by Nordisk Svejseteknik.

The rotor and transmission was unbalanced. The stator was washed and oven dried.

The engine was reassembled with new ball bearings and was tested at Esbjerg Elektroservice. A ball bearing and vibration analysis was taken. The work was approved by an official from the client company. The engine was mounted back.

It turned out that the sister ships from the company had the same engine type mounted and after closer inspection, the same problems were found on these engines.
